Sophia Mintas Bio

Sophia Mintas has been teaching Voice, in-person and online, for 8 years, in a variety of genres to children and adults. She has helped people with damaged voices repair their voices and correct their technique. Some of her students have made it into their school Chamber Choir and advanced choirs, some were chosen for lead roles in their musicals, others succeeded their university vocal auditions, some are vocalists for their bands, some performed the national anthem and others perform in their churches. A 2018 Duquesne University Mary Pappert School of Music graduate (Vocal Performance), she has performed in Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, the cities of Oderzo, Feltre and Bologna in Italy, as well as Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, and the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City.

She has studied opera in Italy (Ezio Pinza Council for American Singers of Opera in Oderzo and Feltre, and the Bologna International Opera Academy in Bologna), Cuernavaca and Mexico City, Mexico (Estudio para el Bel Canto and Centro Morelense de las Artes) in Cuernavaca and Mexico City, New York (Metropolitan International Music Festival – Summer Institute for Intensive Role Study) and Los Angeles (Los Angeles City College Theatre Conservatory and at the Universal Sheraton Hotel for the Extended Opportunities Programs & Services (EOP&S) and Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) Los Angeles Mission College groups) as well as, online (International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia – ISOFOM and Russian Opera Workshop EUGENE ONEGIN course). At ISOFOM she studied the roles of the Contessa, Susanna and Marcellina from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO. With the Russian Opera Workshop, she is preparing the role of Tatyana in Peter Tchaikovsky’s opera, EUGENE ONEGIN.

She enjoys music in its many genres. She has auditioned for America’s Got Talent and The Voice, performed locally in Community Theatre groups (Alabaster International, Apple Hill Playhouse’s Johnny Appleseed Children’s Theatre, Freeport Theatre Festival, Greensburg Civic Theatre and their children’s theatre group, the Greasepaint Players, the Ligonier Valley Players, Youngtimers’ Theatre Opera Company) and with the Pittsburgh Savoyards. As a child, she sang with the Gallatin Children’s Choir in Bozeman, Montana, and the Westmoreland Children’s Choir in Greensburg, PA, and participated extensively with the Stage Right School for the Performing Arts in Greensburg, PA, including at Disney World, and the CLO Academy, Pittsburgh Public Theatre Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest and the Pittsburgh Opera High School Apprentice Program in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been a member of the Friday Evening Music Club in Greensburg, PA, who encourage young musicians to perform classical music, since high school. She enjoys working with her students and coaching them in taking on and mastering expression of their musical passion.
